Trentino Alto Adige Italy, Travel Guide Italy

The Trentino region is all about mountains and wide valley's, always separated from "real Italia" the Trentino and Alto-Adige is land reacquired after the Great War.  Trentino Alto Adige is two made up of two independent provinces: The Trentino in the southern portion of the region which has been traditionally Italian speaking, and the Alto Adige or Sud Tryol province in the northern portion of the province, which has a richer Austrian connection.

The entire region is made up of mountain ranges of the Central and Eastern Alps plus the Dolomite's. The region is bordered by Austria, Veneto, Switzerland, and Lombardia and the capital of the region is Trento.

The Trentino Alto Adige was acquired by the Italian State as part of the accords of WWI. A rich region that has had a tourism tradition since the early 1800's. This can be noted by the facilities and care the region has put into the tourism industry. There are zones that are very busy with masses of people milling around but there are still areas to escape to that allow you to enjoy nature and the "freedom of the hills".

Its territory stretches from the Adamello-Brenta range and the peaks of Ortles and Cevedale to the most striking mountains in Europe: the Dolomites of the Fassa Valley, Brenta, the Gardena and Fiemme Valleys and Pale di San Martino. This setting encloses an extraordinary variety of landscapes: magnificent snow-capped mountaintops, woods, wide valleys, streams, lakes, the enchanting play of light between the spires of the Dolomites, typical villages with soaring bell towers, and the myriad shades of unadulterated nature.

Hundreds of miles of ski slopes make this region a cutting-edge tourist destination - Madonna di Campiglio, Canazei, Moena, San Martino di Castrozza are the best known resorts, popular in both winter and summer for their natural surroundings, sport activities, and fun.

The landscape of Lake Garda is particularly picturesque; it narrows in Trentino, appearing as a fiord between the high mountains.

The valleys of the Trentino-Alto Adige region has been the merging point and cross roads between Latin and Nordic worlds for centuries.  The Trentino Alto Adige guards it remarkable cultural heritage, where you will find evidence of prehistoric dwelling and nature, imposing castles, reglious sanctuaries and towns with great historical and artistic significance.
