
The comuni of Pojana Maggiore makes up part of the southern most tip of the Vicenza province. Evidence shows that once the Adige river flowed though this area which lead to the the prositey of the nearby Noventa Vicentina area. The area was 'reclaimed' during the Roman times and presented to the Azziaco soldiers as spoils of war. Resettled during the Lombard invasions it became known as Pojana (lombard for plowed land). During the Venetian rule there were several villas built in the area the most notiable the villa Pojana by Palladio.
