ROUTE PROFILE: The route is has a moderate profile and a compac 50/34 front gear ratio and a 11/25 rear cassette would be best. From Torrenier to Pienza you find some short sections up to 7%. Between Pienza to Montepulciano it is a gradual climb along the ridge line leading up to the city.

At the 6 km mark you will need to enter the main highway and ride about 600 meters taking the first exit to reach Torrenieri. There is a wide margin but if there is no traffic it is best to ride the main road to the left of the white line. Otherwise you risk getting a flat tire.
If you are stopping to explore Pienza you will need to secure your bicycle (as you should anytime you stop). Otherwise push your bike as you walk into the main square, it is only 25 meters. Do not forget to ride around the back part of the walls for some great views.
The streets in Montepulciano are quite steep and it is best to explore the town by foot.
