Piovene is located on the slopes of Mt. Summano west of the Astico river. Once the area was an important control post on the road leading up to the Tyrol (Trentino area). Its historical centre is a series of courtyards, villas, and farm buildings that give the town a rural feel. Rocchette, part of the official town name since 1933, is home of the Rossi factories that have dominated industrial developments in the area.
The other main activity is quarrying: the whate stone used to build the Basilica of Vicenza were extracted here. The plentiful supply of water has also encouraged the development of paper-making and beer-brewing. The Summano brewery has now stopped production, but it is still used as a beer hall serving many Bavarian specialities.
