This pleasant village was immortalised in the writings of Italian author Antonio Fogazzaro, who spent summer vacations at the villa Velo. There is a medival castle overlooking the valley. The church of San Giorgio contains several nice works of art and actually sits on the site of a Longobard settlement.
The town sites surrounded by mountains M. Novegno and M. Cengio and the Astico river has carved a gorge out as it passes. The river is a source of the local industrial power and at one time provide the water source to local beer bewery's. The Brewery is no longer in operation but there is a historical beer hall to stop at as you enter the valley.
