As 2022 is starting we are excited that travel has reopened in Italy but world events continue to challenge the freedom to move about freely.  As we continue to evolve from the AC (after COVID) era we need to stay focused on being safe but this is not a limiter to exploring and learning.  There are several great eco friendly, wellness tourism, conscious travel, and experience driven travel throughout the region for all levels.  Weather it is a bike tour exploring the walled cities, walking the Dolomites, or urban trekking the larger cities of Verona, Vicenza, or Venice. The Veneto is one of the twenty regions of Italy. Its population is about five million, ranking fifth in Italy. The region's capital and largest city is Venice or Venezia. At one time the Veneto was part of the Republic of Venice, and an independent state for almost 1000 years. The Republic of Venice ruled for centuries over one of the largest and richest maritime republics and trade empires in the world. After the Napoleonic Wars and the Congress of Vienna, the Republic was annexed by the Austrian Empire, until it was ceded to the Kingdom of Italy in 1866, as a result of the Third Italian War of Independence. Currently the Veneto Region is one of the area's in Italy pushing to be and independent state. The Veneto region had everything that a visitor could look for in both history and nature. There are beautiful sea shores, breath taking mountain landscapes, natural hot springs, and wonderful art towns and cities, not to be forgotten is the great foods and wine of the Veneto region.

Top Places and Cities To Visit In the Veneto Region

To escape the urban footprint and get away from the crowds there are plenty of options with unique micro environments.  The majority of the Dolomites are in the Veneto Region offering ski resorts, hiking trails, classic bike climbs, mountain bike descents, and plenty of climbing. The Prealps are just above the Po Valley and sit at a lower elevation allowing access early early spring for those we like to hike and bike.  Also this is were most of the dairy cattle were initially raised and the production of Asiago cheese started.  There are varied hill formations or colli in the region that have wine producers and on the flat plain are walled cities along the rivers that have Roman origins.  

What Outdoor Activities Are There To Do In The Veneto?

There are few outdoor activities that you cannot do when visiting the Veneto Region.  With the mountains, hills, seaside, and mild weather you can do many activities 4-6 months and some year round.  The top activities for destination tours would be Bike Touring, Rock Climbing road trip, Hiking/Walking Tour, and Ski Weeks, and there are many activities you can enjoy for 1 day or multi-day adventure depending on the season and weather conditions.  When the activity is over there is an abundance of art, history, culture, food and wine to enjoy. 

The biggest travel destination in the Veneto Region is the city of Venezia (Venice) but remember that Venezia is land reclaimed from the sea and a small part of the historical footprint of the area.  With the flat plains of the Po Valley, the Pre Alps and Dolomite mountains, and the rolling hills where many of the best wines are produced there is plenty for all styles of travel.  The region is divided into 7 provinces and each has the primary city as it's main attraction, this is a one of the most diverse areas of Italy and you would a few weeks to really fully explore this area.
