After the Napoleonic Wars and the Congress of Vienna, the Republic was annexed by the Austrian Empire, until it was ceded to the Kingdom of Italy in 1866, as a result of the Third Italian War of Independence. Currently the Veneto Region is one of the area's in Italy pushing to be and independent state. The Veneto region had everything that a visitor could look for in both history and nature. There are beautiful sea shores, breath taking mountain landscapes, natural hot springs, and wonderful art towns and cities, not to be forgotten is the great foods and wine of the Veneto region.
