HIKING LAKE GARDA - BARDOLINO EREMO DEI CAMALDOLESI

hiking sign bardolino eremo camaldolesi

Starting from the fire station in Bardolino follow the Lake promenade towards Garda. Immediately after the camping Continental, turn right into the road leading to the regional road. Go past this and go uphill to the base of the castle rock, where you turn right now. After 400 meters on the right you will find the Institute Tusini of the Salesians. Here turn left into a path that will lead you directly to the castle rock, San Giorgio, where is the Hermitage of the Camaldolese monks and then continue to the Rocca Vecchia.

After admiring the landscape, continue walking until you reach the pass between the two castle rocks. Here you can choose between two options: either you go up to Bardolino on the same route, you have committed going uphill, or you go to Garda on the path that leads you at first to the Madonnina del Pigno and then, passing behind of the parish church of Garda, to the lake.  To Bardolino, you can either go back on foot, following the lakeshore towards south, or by public bus, after a visiting tour of the village.

Colli Berici | Hiking

Sentieri nei Colli Berici

Hiking Trails in the Berici Hills The Berici Hills are located south of the city of Vicenza in the Veneto Province.   Once you have seen the Palladio villa and elegance of Vicenza a nice escape is walking or biking the Colli Berici. This quite green zone is an excellent example of the slower paced Italian lifestyle you find in the major tourist cities.  Throughout the Colli Berici there are one day hikes to enjoy, in the early mornings or late evening during the hotter summer days, or mid day during the early spring and late fall.· The zone is bidding to become a natural park like the nearby Eugeani Hills so that over building will not disrupt a forgotten zone in the Berici.· The hills have always protected the populas throughout history and some zones are more hospitable then others in terms of accessability.· Many parts of the hills are owned by the old arosticatic families and there has been not interest in development.· Other area's are not being developed due to the travel time to get to main hubs of business.Hiking is through the wine zones, olive groves and around caves and rock formations that many of the local Palladio villas were built from.  There are plenty of places to stop and rest and several historcial surprises to be found.

Hiking Veneto Region

Escursioni e Passeggiate nel Veneto

HIKING AND WALKING IN THE VENETO REGION The Veneto Region is perhaps one of the best regions in Italy to explore by foot, regardless of how you get here and plan to spend your time you need to bring a good pair of walking shoes. The cities of the Veneto are compact and best explored by foot.  Example being Venice (Venezia), Venice Province, if you only ride around the city using the waterbus you stand the change being disappointed and never grasping the wonder of the city.  The main transportation only gets you to some of the principle sights but to truly explore the city you need to wander the alleyways and get out on the small islands of the lagoon.  As well, Vicenza and Verona, are two main cities not to miss, and you will need to walk most of the day, if you want to explore. With multiple walled cities dating back to the 1100's; Cittadella, Castelfranco, Marostica, Soave, and several others, using the train and systems you can enjoy a very enjoyable vacation of exploring.  Keep in mind many of these small towns are located near the wine producing zones, so an additional shuttle on a urban bus can get you out into the 'countryside' where you can wonder secondary roads and trails. If you want to explore a bit further afoot you have the hills of the Berici south of Vicenza with many hidden gems to discover, the volcanic hills of the Eugenia near Padova, the hills of Asolo and the Prosecco wine area, or the hills over near Verona and the southern shores of Lake Garda.  Each of these areas has a unique history and special flavor.  And many are located close enough to the mountains of the PreAlps and Piccolo Dolomites to offer special excursions like the battlefields of WWI, Asiago Cheese area, the unique eco-system found on Monte Baldo above Lake Grada. Fo those that are looking for great multi day pack treks then the Dolomites has multiple trail systems to follow for classic treks, or grab a few maps and design your own walk.   The Veneto Dolomites are all in the Belluno Province, and most are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Grab you walking sticks and let's go!!
